Rings Of Fire

A couple months ago I was flying back from Chicago to Washington D.C. and saw this interesting "ring of fire" cloud formation during sunset on approach to D.C. (left pic). I took the picture and didn't think much more of it until I noticed the cover of my Led Zeppelin DVD...whoa! Interesting similarity, eh?

Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton-?

I just had a scary thought... people are saying Hillary Clinton is a frontrunner to run for President in '08.  If she wins, the succession of the last 4 presidents will have been Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton.  But why stop there?  What if Jeb Bush wins in '12, and since Chelsea Clinton was born in 1980 she'll be over 35 and eligible to run in '16!  Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton?!  Scaaarry thought...

Bored of the Blog?

OK, this has got to be one of the most boring blogs out there, no?  I mean, I hardly ever update it, and when I do it is with rather self-righteous ramblings.  I don't even think anyone has ever read this besides my wife & friend Rob who submitted a few comments early on, and they probably haven't checked back in the past 9 months.  Should I just give up the ghost?  Hello?

Popeness

So Pope John Paul II died over the weekend.  I'm not Catholic, but I've got fifty dollars for the Catholic Church if they name the next Pope George Ringo I.  (har har...)

Bored Of The Rings

Well I just got done watching the last film of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy ...there's 9 hours of my life I'll never get back.

The 3rd film was the only one to win Best Picture, and I've seen every Best Picture that's come out since I've been born (something I set out to do about 10 years ago), so it was a foregone conclusion that I'd see it.  I saw the first & second movies a few months ago when they were on cable, and with our new DVR I recorded the 3rd a few months ago.  At 3 hours, 25 minutes I was in no rush to start watching, but yesterday I had some time so I caught the first hour.  Very disappointed, since I thought the 2nd was better than the 1st and was obviously leading somewhere...but the 3rd turned out to be just a predictable tale with lots of computer generated battle sequences.  Not what I'd call an Oscarworthy film, but apparently the Academy felt differently.  Probably wanted to reward the whole trilogy since this was the last one and the first two didn't win Best Picture...I hate when they do that.
